Over time, we have slowly seen Google become more and more aware of the need for a consistent design language for Android, Chrome OS and the Play Store. Going one step further on this path, the company has released new guidelines on application icons for application developers.

Beginning in early April, developers will be able to download new icons that comply with the new design of the Play Store, which marks the beginning of the transition period. As of May 1st, Google will no longer accept icons that do not meet the new standards. Starting June 24th, all icons that are not updated will be converted to old ones. This ensures a consistent experience on the Play Store.

Google notes that only Android-based Play Store and Chrome OS stores display these changes (you usually only need to apply a corner radius of 20% of the size of the icon to maintain consistency), while Wear OS, Android TV and Android Auto are not affected.
