In a recently released trailer, Nintendo announced what it calls "a new Nintendo Switch experience." This seems to be a controller & # 39; ring & # 39; flexible in which you click on your Joy-Con right for all kinds of extensible and flexible activities. There is clear speculation that it is a new form of Wii Fit, although the software itself was not shown. The ring is a surprise, but it seems to be the final form of an idea first revealed a few years ago.
In reviewing some patents filed in 2015 and 2016, we found the mention of a "training tool" with load sensors that measure the force applied to the handles. We had submitted a patent for a U – shaped device at the time, and other diagrams in the same repository clearly show a ring – shaped variant that measures the ability of somebody. one to do squats, among other things:
Elsewhere, the text refers to the specific capabilities of a potential device that we reported four years ago, but which seem even more interesting:
A drive tool (10) includes a hollow body (12) formed of an aluminum alloy. The body is configured from two handles (12a) placed face to face in a space and a connecting section (12b) connecting the two handles. A load sensor (16) is disposed in the connection section inside the body. The load sensor is a force sensor, the strain gauge is glued to the inside of the body and the part of the body to which the strain gauge is bound functions as a stress element. Therefore, when a user applies a force to bring the two handles closer or applies a force to separate the two handles, the load thereof is detected by the load sensor.
Although the design may differ from the U-shaped handle of most patents, it is quite possible that these original repositories will end up with this new "ring" controller. The new device seems extremely flexible, so if that is connected in any way, it has obviously undergone some design changes in the past years.
We will have to wait to see exactly how this mysterious device works. There does not seem to be much room to insert a lot of technology into the ring itself, but maybe there are sensors that hide in these handles. In the trailer, Nintendo promises that we'll know more on September 12, so expect to find out more.
