The New York Giants failed to fill their obvious void early in the first round of the NFL 2019 draft, leaving them with a situation to resolve before the start of the regular season.
Another option is veteran Mike Remmers, who visited the team in mid-March but left without a contract as he continues to recover from an unknown injury.
At the time of the visit, Brett Tessler, representing Mr. Remmers, said the two sides shared a "mutual interest" and would keep in touch. And as it turns out, they will do it.
In his press conference after the NFL Saturday night, general manager Dave Gettleman said the team would bring Remmers back for a follow-up visit and check his recovery.
"Well, he's still in rehab, and we keep talking to him, so we'll see," said Gettleman. "Time will tell." In rehab I'll have him come and take another look eventually.
Remmers, 29, made seven saves in the NFL after entering the league in 2012 as a free agent: Denver, Tampa Bay, San Diego, Minnesota, St. Louis Carolina and Minnesota again. He played 65 games as a professional with 64 starts.
Remmers had exclusively played the tackle until the Vikings put him on guard last year, where he started the 16 games. He was the Vikes' right tackle in 2017 during Pat Shurmur's tenure as offensive coordinator. As a member of the Panthers, he made 32 starts, while Mike Shula was the offensive coordinator.
