The next democratic debate is a poll far from being split over two nights (again)

The third round of Democratic debate is about to go from one night to two.

ABC News, which organizes the debate in Houston, announced Wednesday that if 10 candidates or less qualified, it would be held the same evening, September 12. But if this number reaches 11, the debate will take place on 7 September. 12 and 13 – imitating the format of the first two rounds of debate, which included 20 candidates divided equally over two evenings.

Just one week before the deadline for the third debate, 10 presidential candidates have reached the thresholds set by the Democratic National Committee, according to an analysis of survey data and fundraising by the New York Times.

And an eleventh candidate may not be so far: Tom Steyer, the former investor in hedge funds turned impeachment activist, needs only an additional survey to qualify; Representative Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii has two surveys to do; and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York would need an additional 20,000 donors and three more polls.

To qualify for a place on the scene in Houston, applicants must have received donations from at least 130,000 individual donors and received at least 2% support in four eligible ballots.

In a statement, ABC News said that if two nights were needed, the network would hold a selection event on August 29 – the day after the qualification deadline – "to randomly assign candidates to each night ". provide additional details on the process.

The 10 already qualified candidates are: former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr .; Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey; Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind .; former Housing Secretary Julián Castro; Senator Kamala Harris of California; Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota; former Texas representative Beto O'Rourke; Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont; Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts; and entrepreneur Andrew Yang.

In its statement on Wednesday, ABC News announced that presenters George Stephanopoulos and David Muir would act as moderators, along with correspondent Linsey Davis and Univision presenter Jorge Ramos. The debates will be broadcast on ABC and Univision and will take place at Texas Southern University.
