The next iPhone SE will get 5G, but not a redesign

If you were hoping the next iPhone SE would get a makeover, good news and bad news. A report of Macotakara, a Japanese blog from Apple, says the next-generation iPhone SE will benefit from a significant improvement in specifications and 5G. He also says you shouldn’t expect any kind of overhaul, and that’s a bit of a letdown.

Specifically, the third-generation iPhone SE is expected to retain the same 4.7-inch Retina HD display and Touch ID. This goes against rumors from last year, in which reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the company was work on a larger version of the phone– a 5.5-inch iPhone SE Plus, if you will. As for what will actually be upgraded, it looks like everything will be internal. The third generation iPhone SE will get the A15 processor currently in the iPhone 13 lineup, along with 5G. As for when will we see him? Macotakara says the phone will go into production in December, in time for a spring 2022 launch.

It is not unexpected. A Nikkei Asia Report in July echoed much the same. It’s somewhat disappointing, though, as it’s a pretty compelling sign that the iPhone Mini’s failure means Apple doesn’t want to spend more resources on innovating the small phone factor. Instead, it’s believed Apple will go for two 6.1-inch phones and two 6.7-inch phones, one of which will be a “cheaper” version of the Pro Max.

It makes sense and is confusing at the same time. We all have a friend with tiny hands who complains that phones these days are too big to be used with one hand. The iPhone Mini was meant to be a compromise. Technologically more advanced than the SE, but at a size more suitable for small hands. Instead, sales of the iPhone 12 Mini were dismal at best. You could blame this on the Mini not so great battery life, or the fact that the Netflix pandemic prompted bigger screens. Perhaps this was the classic problem of having two smaller phones that weren’t different enough to justify the Mini’s higher price tag. But at the same time, what exactly is stopping Apple from bringing together the best of iPhone SE and iPhone Mini into one? excellent small phone that costs less than its big brothers? Maybe something with a bigger screen, the improved battery life of the iPhone 13 Mini, and the cameras of the current OS? There is a temptation to give in to the schadenfreude. You tiny-handed numskulls begged for a small phone and didn’t show up – you deserve to have to choose between a smaller phone using older technology or a bigger phone that’s hard to hold. But I would say we’re at the point where a 4.7-inch screen is hard on the eyes and not very useful for modern tasks, given how we use phones in 2021 compared to 2017. iPhone SE can be a budget phone. , but is it really beyond Apple’s ability to make an affordable phone with a screen that matches the way we use phones today?
