NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Federal Court of Appeal ruled that the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers were not entitled to damages from BP for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010.

The issue in dispute was the accounting practices used by the team to argue that the 2010 spill had resulted in a drop in the team's revenue. The Buc claimed $ 19.5 million in damages.

On Friday, the US Court of Appeals 5th Circuit upheld the district court's decision against the team.

The court found that Bucs' earnings in May-June 2010 were not significantly lower than those of the same period a year later. In order to claim damages, he had had to show that his income had rebounded by at least 10% in 2011.

The team stadium is located approximately 360 km southeast of the spill site.
