The Nintendo Switch Lite is a perfect remake

It is good that the Nintendo Switch Lite was launched the same day, during the reissue of one of the best Zelda games of all time. The range of Switch consoles and the Zelda series of games are inseparable. The original switch is a remarkable and unusual component, unique in its kind, and the Zelda game that was launched at its side, Breath of nature, is a remarkable and unusual too. The Switch Lite and the game Zelda this year, Link's Awakening, are both beautiful and incredible remakes of extraordinary and existing works. You probably do not need to buy Link's Awakening if you have played it before, but you will like it. If you already have a switch, you do not necessarily need Switch Lite. But if you buy it, you will love it.

What is it?

It is solid, the display is beautiful, it's cheap and there is no crack!

Not as

It lacks a bit of the strange appeal of the original device. Standby battery life requires work.

In fact, I love Switch Lite so much that I could force my brother to buy my original Switch. The Lite switch is absolutely a "lesser" version of the original switch. You can not connect it to your TV and you can not delete the controls to instantly tete-a-tete. Smash Brothers correspond with a friend. The brightness of the display does not adjust automatically and there is no roar when you are hit by bad guys in games. If you're looking for the best Switch experience, you do not have to buy the Switch Lite. You should buy the original switch or the minor revision launched at the beginning of the year (it is supposed to be slightly faster and has improved the life of the battery).

I play my original switch almost exclusively in portable mode – I only attach to the TV when I have to destroy people in sleep mode. Smash Brothers. So, the new Switch Lite handheld and emphatically looked like the machine of my dreams on paper. In practice, it is actually the machine of my dreams (for the most part).

It's smaller and lighter than the original switch, and it's probably the first thing you'll notice if you handle both devices. The original Switch and Joy-Cons weigh 14.04 ounces. The Switch Lite weighs only 9.76 ounces. Some people at Gizmodo's offices described it as "cheap". People love to associate the robustness of a device with a sense of premium, so the expected criticism, even if they are all wrong.

The Lite Switch has a nice matte finish on its plastic surfaces, which is less sensitive to fingerprints than the original Switch, and it does not have the same incredible flex. There is no crunch when you play games either. No sense that you could break it all in two with a strong twist. Even the small series of vents on the top of the device looks more rugged and less prone to break than the switch's very vents. I feel I can throw the Light Switch in my bag without being afraid to break it as I do every time I travel with the Switch.

Options such as automatic brightness are not available on the Switch Lite.

At 3.6 inches by 8.2 inches, the Lite Switch is much smaller than the 4.02 inch by 12.23 inch switch. This makes it much more portable, and between size and weight, it's a lot easier to hold when I play Emblem of fire for three hours in a row. My hands are never bothered during marathon sessions with Switch Lite as they do with the Switch. However, people with larger than average hands should be wary; some of my colleagues found the controls too narrow for their hands.

The relatively large reduction in size does not mean, however, a reduction in the life of the battery. Nintendo has reduced the battery from 4310mAh to 3570mAh, but the removal of features such as the rumble pack means that the Switch Lite has a better battery life than the original Switch. On average, I found a longer battery life of about an hour, and during a battery test performed by Tom's Guide, in which they set the maximum brightness of each device and played sessions Smash Brothers, the Switch Lite lasted 3h50. The original switch lasted 2 hours 45 minutes. It is true that both devices have lost to a new revision of the switch, which changes the performance of the battery and processor and lasts 4h50.

Standby battery life leaves a lot to be desired though. For a period of two days, I spent my free time on my Kindle instead of Switch Lite, which went from 100% to 71% autonomy. So keep it plugged in when you are not using it or plan to recharge it before traveling.

A smaller device means a smaller display. It went from 6.2 inches to 5.5 inches. The 720p resolution is the same, and in our tests, its maximum brightness was at the same level – the average two averages 380 nits. However, since the Switch Lite has the same resolution on a smaller screen, things look better. A higher pixel density means that the image appears sharper.

More pixels per inch means the display is more appealing.

The original Switch's 720p LCD screen seemed far too cheap compared to the wide range of high resolution OLED phones on the market. It looked more like Baby's first tablet than a super cool gaming device. The Switch Lite has not changed things dramatically, but the move from 237ppi to 267ppi is immediately noticeable and extremely welcome. Between this and the robustness of the console, the Switch Lite feels like an expensive upgrade despite $ 100 cheaper.

The Switch Lite display tends to be warmer than the Switch's. Even though a cold screen may seem more appealing, the Switch Lite has more accurate colors than the original switch. If you accept the idea that cold screens keep you awake at night, you will probably be satisfied with the slight yellowish tint of the Lite switch.

Overall, I am not concerned with the very minor issues of Switch Lite. Do I want to be able to connect or have a rumble pack or the brightness of the screen automatically adjusts? Absolutely. However, as the first portable Switch player, I will gladly give all these things for a device that feels more solid and prettier when I play it. The fact that the Switch Lite only costs $ 200 also helps things.

You do not enjoy the full Switch and Magic experience with Switch Lite. The promise of a device that can quickly switch from television to your bag is not there. The Switch Lite is not for play Smash Brothers tournaments at a friend's house or 1-2 switch at the bar. It's not to live every really bizarre and wild promise of Joy-Cons. It's to sit on the couch and get lost in the game world for a few hours. For people who already have the switch, it's a useless luxury, but for people who play mostly with a handheld computer, this should be an obligation. For people who have not yet invested in a switch and want to see what it's all about, $ 200 Switch Lite is the perfect entry point.
