TL; DR

  • HMD Global has just announced the Nokia T20 tablet, a first for Nokia’s new parent brand.
  • The tablet has decent specs but doesn’t offer much to make it unique.
  • It will set you back $ 249.99 / £ 199.99 for the 4G compatible model, and it’s available to order now.

Update, October 8, 2021 (9:11 a.m.ET): When HMD Global gave us pre-release information for this tablet, it gave us the wrong specs. The Nokia T20 does not have the Snapdragon 480 chipset and therefore is not 5G compatible. We have edited the article below to reflect this.

Original article, October 6, 2021 (5:00 a.m.ET): Since HMD Global took over the Nokia mobile brand, we have seen a large number of Nokia phones launch. However, we had yet to see a tablet launch, but that is changing today.

HMD has just unveiled the Nokia T20 tablet. The Android-based slate has decent specs, near-stock Android, and very competitively priced.

Of course, making a great Android tablet takes more than offering good specs at a great value. With that in mind, it doesn’t look like HMD is pushing any real innovation here. Still, if you’re looking for a low-cost Android tablet that can do the basics, this now seems like a great option.

Nokia T20 tablet: what do you get?

The Nokia T20 is a 10.4 inch slate with a 2K 2000 x 1200 LCD screen. It can reach a maximum of 400 nits of brightness, which isn’t bad but not great either.

Under the hood you’ll find a Unisoc T610, which isn’t a powerful chip. Coupled with that is 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage (although some parts of the world will see a 3GB / 32GB variant as well). Either way, you have a microSD card slot to expand that storage up to 512GB if you need it.

On the front there is a 5MP camera. On the back there is an 8 megapixel shooter. There is a USB-C port for charging the 8200mAh battery up to 15W as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Everything runs Android 11 in stock, and HMD Global claims the Nokia T20 will eventually get Android 12. If you need mobile connectivity, there are 4G compatible models as well as Wi-Fi-only variants.

Other than that, there aren’t any really unique special features of the tablet. It’s basically a big Nokia phone.
