The Nubia Alpha is a ridiculous and flexible smartwatch concept

We are in 2019 and everything can bend. Samsung and Huawei have shown foldable phones, but the portable clothes are also flexible. Wrap up, the Nubia Alpha, a "cell phone" that wraps around your wrist.

The new smartwatch was announced at the MWC in Barcelona, but if you pay attention, you'll know that a previous prototype had already been used by IFA last September. The finalized version looks a little more refined, with a flexible 4-inch OLED screen, consisting of no less than 11 layers, able to bend around the arm.

Note that we called it a "mobile phone" – this is how Nubia charges this device, designed to work completely independently (it comes with some wireless headphones in the box). Nubia has teamed up with China Unicom for eSIM support, but the watch is also available in a less expensive Bluetooth version, which will of course have to be paired with a phone.

The Nubia has included a 5 megapixel camera at the front, but the gesture system, which is more interesting, is the gesture system that allows you to control the watch by sweeping the air in front of it. $ 10 indicates that it's something we use once and never again, but hey, at least they're trying something.

But if Nubia's notebook is definitely futuristic on the outside, it contains a Snapdragon 2100 chip, which is rather old-fashioned. You also have your standard fitness track, although the depth of this situation is unclear. Chances are you do not buy this as a workout companion. You buy this because you want to taste in the future, and by God, you're going to look great.

Nubia says that the watch will give you "up to two days" of autonomy, which, if history tells us anything, can mean a lot of things. We will have to wait and see.

The watch is available in black or 18K gold-plated versions for those times when you need bling-bling. It is priced at 549 € for the 4G eSIM model and 449 € for the Bluetooth version only. It is not clear yet whether prices prevail in the United States or the United Kingdom, but the company has announced that it will land in the United States in the fourth quarter of this year.
