Forget the horses. Wrangler has critics on the back.

The jeanswear company has been criticized for its new partnership with Lil Nas X, the rapper behind the country-rap viral hit "Old Town Road" with Billy Ray Cyrus.

With lyrics filled with cowboy images ("Gucci / Wrangler cowboy hat on my booty / Nobody can tell me anything at all"), a collaboration with Wrangler seemed to be obvious.

"Psst … it's an instant hit." Introducing the new Wrangler Lil Nas X collection, "wrote the clothing company on Instagram, adding in another article:" The song and style that hold back the # The attention of the world ".

But the collection, which contains the title of the song and catchy lyrics on Wrangler jeans and t-shirts, seems to attract the wrong kind of attention. In fact, many fans have threatened to boycott society in what they consider to be a "cultural appropriation".

Wrangler came to their defense, replying, "We have long used the popular music platform to welcome a new generation of fans, while remaining true to our Western heritage."

The garment company continued, "We believe that the cowboy spirit is based on courage, independence and trust, which are the same qualities as this unique and limited edition collection."

Others applauded the move.

"I like it! I have not bought wrangler for years, but I will probably buy a pair," said @marymayhem_, while others were asking when items out of stock would be replenished.

@faaithwaare added, "It's time for more brands to diversify culturally while respecting their original principles – again, thank you for that – it was really necessary!"

USA TODAY has contacted Wrangler for a comment.

Lil Nas X also said. "Are you really boycotting a wrangler, is it so deep?" tweeted.

This reaction comes after Billboard disqualified Lil Nas X 's "Old Town Road" song from the country' s charts for "not including enough elements of country music today".

Cyrus decided to join the Atlanta rapper, aged 20, on the remix to showcase the song's strengths, including his country lyrics and his cowboy-style lyrics and his support for the banjo.

The song continued to earn No. 1 places on Billboard's Hot Country Songs and Hot R & B / Hip-Hop charts at the same time.
