TL; DR

  • The OnePlus 9RT would launch in October.
  • The phone, which will be available in China and India, will get a few upgrades over the OnePlus 9R.
  • It would also ship with OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12.

While OnePlus is unlikely to launch any more new premium phones in the US this year, it apparently won’t be in other markets. Android Central just announced, via anonymous sources, that we can expect the OnePlus 9RT to launch in October.

The new phone will be based on the previous OnePlus 9R. It will still have a 6.55-inch 120Hz AMOLED display and the same 4,500mAh battery. However, the OnePlus 9RT will have what the article calls a “higher version” of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor from the OnePlus 9R.

The report adds that the OnePlus 9RT will benefit from some camera improvements. It will include the 50MP Sony IMX766 as the primary camera compared to the 48MP Sony IMX586 camera found on the OnePlus 9R.

However, the most interesting thing about this new phone is that it would be the first OnePlus device to come with its OxygenOS 12 out of the box. The Android 12-based operating system will look similar to Oppo’s ColorOS skin. OxygenOS 12 will also contain new features, according to the report, including floating windows, a theme store and privacy additions like Private Safe that will allow users to secure files in a password protected folder.

There’s no word on the price of the OnePlus 9RT, but the OnePlus 9R currently sells for 39,999 in India (around $ 538).

The OnePlus 9R marks a return to OnePlus’ roots as an affordable flagship with plenty of raw power, 65W fast charging, and an attractive 120Hz display.
