SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Employees of the Scottsdale-based Laser Spine Institute learned Friday night that the operation was closing immediately.

In a statement broadcast on ABC's Scripps ABC Action News, the company said the lack of funding was to blame.

According to the company's website, the company employed more than 1,000 people in Tampa, Cincinnati, Scottsdale and St. Louis.

The company said it was in the process of contacting patients with scheduled procedures to inform them of closures. He is also in touch with other surgical service providers to determine if they can absorb the additional surgical demand, according to the release.

The Laser Spine Institute has touted its minimally invasive spinal interventions in ambulatory settings.
