DHHS warns of 6-8 week wait for COVID injections

9 p.m. UPDATE: The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services just reported 33 new cases of COVID-19 on January 15. That brings the total number of cases reported here since the start of the pandemic to 2,208.
As of 8:30 p.m. on January 15, the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services had not released any new COVID numbers for the county. Earlier today, however, the DHHS released an update announcing that it is now accepting appointment requests for vaccines for people 65 and older. But he also warned that there could be a considerable wait for these hits.
The update stated that “If you are a healthcare worker or are at least 65 years old, you can submit an appointment request for vaccination at www.darenc.com/Register4Vaccine or by calling the clinic. ‘COVID-19 calls at 252-475-5008.
Dare County DHHS receives a limited amount of vaccine from the state each week. We will make appointments for people in the appropriate phase, depending on the vaccine supply. Given the expected number of individuals in this phase, we predict that it could take 6-8 weeks before everyone in these prioritization phases who want to be vaccinated receives one.
North Carolina
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported 8,914 cases of COVID-19 on January 15, as well as 108 COVID deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of people hospitalized with the virus fell by 74 to 3,916 from the previous day. The percentage of positive tests on all administered tests reported today was 11.2%, virtually unchanged from the previous day.

Note: Each morning, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services issues an update on the number of reported coronavirus cases. This number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial laboratories. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers in any given day, but it is an effective way to track numbers from the same source day to day.
