INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An upright piano used by John Lennon to write Beatles songs was sold at auction. Just "A day in the life" of the owner of the Colts of Indianapolis.

Jim Irsay tweeted Saturday that he was "delighted" to own the instrument that Lennon had used to compose songs for the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" of The Beatles .

The piano, manufactured in the 1870s, was auctioned at GottaHaveRockandRoll.com. The site estimated that it would sell for between $ 800,000 and $ 1.2 million. Until Saturday afternoon, the final price had not been announced yet.

Irsay calls piano ownership a "responsibility that I take seriously, thinking of future generations."
