According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Patriots did not know that distant receiver Antonio Brown was at risk of being sued for sexual assault when they signed him last week.

Britney Taylor, former coach of Brown, has accused him of sexual assault and rape in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in the South Florida District.

According to the complaint, Brown violently assaulted and raped Taylor, a gymnast whom he had met while he was attending central Michigan and was later hired as a coach in three separate incidents. On Wednesday, Brown coached with the Patriots in the middle of allegations, and his coach, Bill Belichick, told reporters that his team was managing the situation "one day at a time."

Taylor would be willing and planning to meet with the NFL next week to investigate the allegations. Brown should also meet the league, and the NFL has the opportunity to place him on the commissioner's exempt list.

New England signed a one-year contract with Brown for $ 15 million on Sept. 7 after his release from the Raiders earlier in the day.
