The mother of an 8-year-old boy made the right decision when she took him to a health center after normal working hours a weekend after the fall of his son a week earlier at the zoo.

A fever appeared and a mysterious red band also materialized.

This band proved to be a sign of infection of his wound, which prompted a visit to the doctor who diagnosed sepsis, a blood infection that can become fatal if left untreated.

"This is not something you can" leave "until Monday, when the doctors will be back in the office," said the British mother, Alexandra Ruddy, on Facebook.

Ruddy said that she posted the story and photo of the red steak as a warning to other parents …especially because his arm "did not seem to him infected" and that, apart from the late development of the fever, his son behaved well.

It has now been shared 37,000 times.

"I was a little aware, but I wondered if that made sense," Ruddy said in the United States today about the diagnosis of sepsis.

She almost did not share

Ruddy said that her husband had "convinced" to publish the story of his son.

She felt "a little silly" even to take her to the doctor on a Sunday although something in her tells her not to wait. The doctor confirmed and congratulated the mother for recognizing her and treating her quickly, she wrote on Facebook.

Her son was diagnosed with sepsis, with signs and symptoms such as fever, high heart rate, confusion, pain and shortness of breath. Red streaks are not directly related to sepsis but are a sign of spread of infection.

The doctor was warned not to alarm Ewan and told Ruddy to monitor his next two days, his mother told USA TODAY.

"He did say that if (the sequence) was going to lengthen in the next 48 hours to go to the hospital … keeping in mind that Ewan was with me, I I'm sure he would not want to scare her! "

Ewan was sent home with antibiotic treatment for one week and fully recovered after missing two days of school.

The same thing happened to a friend

Ruddy said that it was a friend who warned him two years ago that red streaks could mean danger.

Her husband, her friend and her own gratitude for the fact that her son is healthy have brought her to share on Facebook without ignoring the red traces or mom's instincts.

"Fortunately, antibiotics work and it's good in itself!" she wrote. "If you see this red line that leaves from an injury along the vein, get yourself noticed immediately, as well as your child.I hope my message will help someone from the same." way that my friend's message from two years ago. "
