The plane skids off the runway at Newark Airport; Flights resume with delays

NEWARK, NJ (WABC) – An aircraft skidded off the runway at Newark Airport, causing significant delays, the FAA confirmed.

United Airlines Flight 627 landed on Runway 22 at approximately 1300 hours. Saturday and skidded on the left side of the sidewalk. The main left landing gear is stuck in a grassy area.

Arrivals and departures were originally stopped by have since resumed. Delays throughout the day are expected and passengers should call their carrier for information.

The images from the scene show emergency responders circling an aircraft that appears to be partially out of the runway. The images obtained by Eyewitness News seem to show that the plane was damaged.

The firefighters rescue firefighters unit of PAPD, the UES and a patrol work on the scene and evacuate passengers.

Passengers are escorted off the plane by stairs before the plane is towed out of the airfield. Buses take passengers to the terminal.

Until now, no injuries have been reported.

The authorities did not confirm why the plane had slipped and the FAA was heading to the airport to begin the investigation.

The flight took place at Denver International Airport.
