The Porsche 911 2020 looks like the same but is much faster

The long-standing joke is that Porsche never really changes the 911, and they all look the same. It is certain that certain visual cues are preserved in each generation and it is always a four-seater with the engine behind and bulging wings. But this new Porsche 911 from 2020, called 992 by cognoscenti, looks so much like the current 991 that I'm not quite sure that Porsche is not doing a large-scale gas lighting business.

The 992 generation 911, launched tonight as Carrera S and Carrera 4S models, has some notable differences from the outgoing model, with the rear fairing showing the brake lights moved higher up on the car.

On the front, you'll see a sharp-cornered hood, reminiscent of the 911's G-series of the '70s and' 80s. It looks a little unfinished and it's not good. The worst part, however, could be the raised brake light in the center of the engine hood grille. It sounds like an afterthought.

So what is good?

The new engine is a development of the old engine with an "improved injection system", as well as optimized turbos and intercoolers, for a power of 443 horsepower. This is the same as the current model of the Carrera S 420. A manual gearbox will be available later, as the new 911 will be launched with a brand new PDK 8-speed dual clutch gearbox.

When equipped with Sport Chrono with overboost and PDK, the 911 Carrera 4S AWD will increase from 0 to 60 seconds in 3.2 seconds, several tenths less than the model you can buy in showrooms .

Porsche has made it clear that it wants the 911 to be an accessible car, whatever the situation, for everyone. As a result, the new car is available with a high-tech Wet mode, which uses sensors in the fenders to detect water conditions on the road surface and alter vehicle performance. Night vision, available in Cayenne and Panamera models, is now optional for your 911 as well. The new car also adds an adaptive cruise function with stop and start functionality.

Looking at the inside of the car, this seems like a really nice place to sit at the full capacity of gas tanks at highway speeds, which with an 8-speed gearbox and a more efficient motor could represent a long distance. The 911 continues its steady progression to the status of Grand Tourer with space for luggage behind the rear seats and helps hold the fucking phone. Does it mean a real functional cup holder in the center console?

With two giant screens flanking a central tachometer, the 911's gauge display is a modern version of a theme from the era. Add the huge central screen and you'll get a sportier version of the interior of the Cayenne and Panamera. Fortunately, however, the mass of the central buttons seems to have real flip-flops instead of the touch buttons of its stabilizers.

The shifter of the PDK is bad. I hope the manual gear lever is more in line with the rest of the car.

The Carrera S will start at $ 113,200, while the C4S starts at $ 120,600. This represents a price increase of more than $ 8,000 compared to the current model. You can contact your Porsche dealer to place an order now, but do not expect to take delivery until next summer.
