The initial centerpiece, American factory tackles the tensions when a Chinese billionaire opens a factory in what remains of an abandoned GM factory – which is almost too relevant. Flowering, meanwhile, highlights the challenges for women and people of color in the New York fashion industry after World War II. A film adaptation of David Blight's biography on social reformer Frederick Douglass is also in preparation. The non-fiction series of The big court the author Michael Lewis, Fifth risk, covers the work of "everyday heroes" in government and the military, while Crip Camp shows how a summer camp for teenagers with disabilities helped launch the disability rights movement.
Two of the shows are not as heavy but reflect a similar spirit. Neglected is a series of anthologies based on the New York Times Column telling the story of "remarkable" people whose death might otherwise not be reported. The preschool crowd, meanwhile, can look Listen to your vegetables and eat your parents to see stories about food in the world.
We do not know when the first shows will come, although two of these productions (American factory and Crip Camp) are acquisitions that have a better chance of arriving first. Whatever the situation, it is clear that Netflix is committed to this alliance in the long run.
