The purchase of Aetna by CVS gets the final approval

CVS Health's acquisition of health insurer Aetna, worth nearly $ 70 billion, was finally approved by a federal judge following one of the conditions set by the Department of Justice .

The merger is allowed provided that Aetna sells her Medicare prescription drug plan business to WellCare Health Plans. These two contracts are already finalized.

US District Judge Richard Leon questioned whether the regulation in question adequately protected competition and consumers in health care markets.

Judge Leon said Wednesday that the health markets involved in this case "are not only very competitive today, but will likely remain so after the merger." The settlement "is well within the limits of the public interest," concluded the judge, according to Dow Jones.
