The Queen will perform at Oscars with Adam Lambert

We can now have a clue about the start of the next broadcast of the Oscars. The show was wrapped in intrigue (and confusion and frustration) since the Academy chose to go ahead without a moderator when their Kevin Hart plan exploded, and many wondered how the show could begin without an official host. Today, the Academy has announced that Queen will perform at the Oscars, and we imagine a live performance of one of the hit songs featured in the nomination for best film Bohemian Rhapsody would be quite a statement of openness.

While Oscars producers were trying to comply with ABC's mandate to limit the broadcast to three hours, they have now admitted that this would not be possible after the Academy canceled its decision to award four awards during commercial breaks. This seems to confirm that, while the Academy maintained that the non-live winners would be on the show later in the broadcast, they were going to reduce acceptance speeches more than they foresaw.

Queen's performance is in addition to the five nominees for the best original song, which will also perform – although it seems to be in the form of truncated 90-second versions of their songs. It is unclear what, if any, other musical numbers can be expected since the details of the broadcast have been kept secret. But if you liked Bohemian Rhapsody and / or if you want to watch Queen play live, this is probably good news.

The Oscars will be broadcast live on ABC Sunday, February 24 at 8 pm ET.
