ARLINGTON – Joey Gallo scored the winning point late in the ninth inning to give the Rangers a 11-10 win over the Cubs Sunday afternoon at Globe Life Park. Texas won two of three Chicago games in the first season of the season, despite 28 assists.

Gallo, facing Pedro Strop, closer to the Cubs, launched the victorious rally with a double left, beyond the reach of Ben Zobrist. Shin-Soo Choo, a hitter for Hunter Pence, took Gallo to third place.

This raised Nomar Mazara, and Strop won his first pitch in front of receiver Willson Contreras to bring the winning race back home.

The Rangers led, 4-0, in the bottom of the fourth before Delino DeShieldsThe first grand slam of his career was awarded five points by Cole Hamels. But the Cubs responded with four points from starting Lance Lynn and reliever Jesse Chavez in sixth place to take an 8-5 lead.

The Rangers could come back from that too. Jeff Mathis started the return with a home run in sixth. Mazara tied with a triple of two points in the seventh and Asdrúbal Cabrera followed with a two-point home run to put the Rangers, 10-8.
