Meanwhile, defensive linemen Willie Henry and Zach Sieler, among the released players, were disappointed with their day.
The Ravens have kept only five defensive linemen: Brandon Williams, Michael Pierce, Chris Wormley, Patrick Ricard and rookie Daylon Mack. Henry's release may have been the most surprising. A former fourth-round pick in 2016, Henry was expected to be a leading player inside at the start of the training camp. He had a disappointing preseason with only one tackle and one quarter pressure, and he was also hit by injuries, playing only three games last season due to a herniated disc.
Gerald Willis was a free priority undisputed agent, who would have a good chance to do the lineup early in training camp.
Other notable developments include:
Offensive back Kenneth Dixon was placed on the reserve after being injured in the pre-season final against the Washington Redskins. The Ravens will wear three halves on the 53-player roster – Mark Ingram II, Gus Edwards and rookie Justice Hill. Offensive runner De'Lance Turner was also released, despite winning 62 yards in 18 races against the Redskins. He spent much of last season in the training team and could go back there. Cornerback Tavon Young (neck) was also placed on the injured reserve, officially ending his season.
Offensive lineman Patrick Mekari and linebacker Otaro Alaka extended the Ravel's non-aligned throws to 16 consecutive years. An offensive lineman from Cal, Mekari played center, guard and tackle against the Redskins and his versatility as a substitute was an asset. The Ravens kept nine offensive linemen, including Greg Senat, who was on the ball of alignment. A Texas A & M linebacker, Alaka gives the Ravens more depth where they need it behind Patrick Onwuasor, Chris Board and Kenny Young.
Cyrus Jones has made the list of players as the first kickoff returner and will also play the nickel cornerback. Running back Tyler Ervin, who also returned balls during the pre-season, was released.
Security Brynden Trawick was another bubble player who did not do the initial alignment. Raven 29 years old (2013-15), he excels in the special teams. Rookie cornerback Iman Marshall, who ran out of time this season while injured, was placed on the 53-man roster.
