Current assumptions about "need" would indicate that Keuchel is the natural fit for the spokes, but Kimbrel might actually be the most likely of the two. The Rays certainly know how to use a good lifter, although Kimbrel should probably open his mind to a less than traditional role.
On the other hand, the Rays must be intrigued by the possibility of moving into the second half of the season by placing in the top four of the season. Blake Snell, Charlie Morton, Keuchel and Tyler Glasnow. Health and contract negotiations aside, such a traditional rotation of power plants would be a fun twist for revolutionary rays. Even if they are still friends with Keuchel and Kimbrel on Facebook, they will have to at least outbid the Yankees to pick up on Keuchel. Of course, this conversation would make a lot of sense if it was in December. Nevertheless, the general interest to win, even if the evidence often show the opposite. The fact is that Rays will not be the only ones to seek the services of Kimbrel (or Keuchel) at the beginning of June.
