EBENSBURG – Central Cambria’s offense was in full swing Friday night as the Red Devils produced a balanced attack that was too much to handle for Bishop McCort’s visit.
A passing game that has been dormant for most of the season for the Red Devils produced several big plays that helped Central Cambria take control of the contest and claim a 42-20 victory over the Crimson Crushers.
Game play: Central Cambria senior quarterback Ian Little hit Nolan Wyrwas mid stride for a 57-yard touchdown that gave the Red Devils a 20-0 lead with 8:50 left in the first half -time.
Player of the game: Little completed 7 of 8 passes for 142 yards and his first three touchdowns of the season, while rushing for another score.
Small: “Our attack opened him up a bit more. We took a few shots and hit them, and our offensive line was just blocking in an incredible way. “
Unsung hero: Central Cambria first-year linebacker Grady Snyder. Snyder had an interception and he was a disruptive presence in defense throughout the game for the Red Devils.
“For being an undersized kid who played eighth grade football last year, Grady is a savvy player who knows how to play,” Red Devil coach Shane McGregor said. “He made some great tackles in the open field and was able to be in the right place at the right time. “
Most important statistic: Central Cambria’s balanced offense finished with 200 rushing yards and 142 passing yards, passing the Crimson Crushers 342-249 in total yards.
McGregor: “Fantastic complementary football – attack, defense and special teams all worked together. We sent our athletes into space, it was just smart football that took what the defense was giving us. We controlled the line of scrimmage and the big dogs up front were the key. “
Bishop McCort’s coach, Tom Smith: “We were very inconsistent and didn’t play fundamental football in the first half. Central Cambria was well prepared and did a good job. They deserved the victory.
Noteworthy: Cambria center backer Ethan Gillin rushed for a high 101 yards and a score on 14 carries and also caught a 47 yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter… Wyrwas caught two passes from touchdown and also had an interception which was converted into a Red Devil score… McCort QB Trystan Fornari rushed for two touchdowns and threw one.
