BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox have named the infielder Eduardo Nunez for an assignment, likely ending his tenure with the team that he helped win the World Series last year. .

Nunez beat .228 in 60 games with Boston this season, his third with the organization. Last year, he beat .265 with 10 home runs in 127 games, and also scored three goals to help the Red Sox win the first game of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Also Monday, right-handed Ryan Weber and first-baseman Sam Travis were recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, while right-hander Hector Velazquez was opted for Pawtucket.
