The Red Sox finish the Orioles' sweep behind another big day for Rafael Devers

The Red Sox have now won five straight games and have just completed an Oriole sweep. It was far from your typical victory, however, with things that seemed dark from the start. Nathan Eovaldi was brutal in his debut, having only lasted two innings and the Red Sox ended up in a 6-0 hole. The Orioles are, well, the Orioles, though, and that was enough to trigger a return. Boston scored six in a wild sixth set. Rafael Devers had another big day at the plate, the pen was phenomenal to stop bleeding in seven innings of work and the Red Sox began to roll.

The Red Sox have been playing good baseball lately, winning each of their last four games with a good start, behind a lot of that. It has been difficult to find a good start for the pitchers this season, and now that Chris Sale and David Price are on the injured list, Boston needs a few to strengthen his team. Nathan Eovaldi is on this list, the right-hander having gone from corrector to rotation. This was a decision that had been discussed for a week or two before, but they were finally able to start the transition on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Eovaldi's first taste in this role since April is exactly what the team did not want to see. Faced with a bad team of Orioles, the right-hander simply had no control and Baltimore was able to make the most of it. The Red Sox were hoping to have between 55 and 60 shots against Eovaldi in what would ideally be four or five solid runs, but he was not as close to that performance or performance.

Eovaldi did not need much time on Sunday to get into trouble, while Jonathan Villar led the match with a double top on the left wall. He then moved into third place on wild ground before Eovaldi showed up for Trey Mancini. With the first two batters hit, the right-hander made a big first outing, but then Renato Núñez did everything for nothing. Eovaldi took too much risk with a breaking ball and Núñez, who has a lot of power, jumped everywhere for a three-run shot. A half-inning in the match and Baltimore had a 3-0 lead.

Things have not improved either for the Red Sox starter. He totally lost control over the second, starting a walk, then throwing a wild throw before taking another walk. After Villar stole the second goal to put a pair in goal, Macini managed to score two goals and the Orioles themselves had a 5-0 lead.

These two innings would be everything we would have seen from Eovaldi, with Darwinzon Hernandez entering the match with a score of 5-0. We basically have the full Darwinzon experience here. He showed his monster tricks with a few strikeouts, but he also lost some control at times and put a hit on a batter after the fact. That turned out to be important because, with two outs, Hanser Alberto managed to double the Monster for a doubled RBI. After three stays on the board, Baltimore had a 6-0 lead.

So throwing it was clearly a problem for the Red Sox, but it was hoped that the offensive would be able to catch up and that a few with Ty Blach on the mound for the O 's. As you can guess with this score of 6-0, this was not the case at first. They had bungled in each of the first two innings – a double of Rafael Devers in the first and a walk of Christian Vázquez in the second – but no points.

At the bottom of the third, they started to start a little. Already trailing by six, they were going to need some solid runs to get back into the game, but they started to lose ground in the third. This round began with a walk from Chris Owings and after Mookie Betts scored two with a double, Devers brought home a goal. After that, they got another point for the RBI and arranged for two in what could be a twisted round.

In the fourth game, there was only one shot to continue to reduce the scales. This shot came from Sam Travis, who continues to mystify in this relay at the level of the major leagues. This time, he had a first-step lead that was not flowing and he sent a solo shot to the center field to bring it to 6-3.

The marker was successful in halting Baltimore's momentum in both runs after Hernandez dropped out of the sixth inning. Ryan Brasier, Josh Taylor and Marcus Walden each conceded a round and none of them were perfect, but no points made it.

That gave the Red Socks the opportunity to tie it down to the bottom of the sixth, with a little help from the Orioles, well, the Orioles. J.D. Martinez started things off by scoring a double in the left field line and, after moving to third position on a flying ball, Travis led the way to put the runners at the corners with a setback.

That marked the end of Blach's day, and that's where things got weird. After Vázquez hit the race with a double, Mitch Moreland had the chance to be hit by a pair as a scorer in a two-game match. As might be expected, Baltimore responded by appealing to Paul Fry, a southpaw. Until then, everything made sense. Fry also did his job, inducing a weak pop-up in the shallow left field of Moreland. Except that, well, no one was to be found and he had a weird blow. To make matters worse for Baltimore, throwing them home was entrusted to Chance Sisco, who was hit by Travis on the ground. Nobody moved back behind the plate and the Red Sox got two points once the dust settled, placing it at six.

Things just keep going after that too. Betts kept up the pace with a two-way march, bringing Devers back to the plate with two. He did what he did all year, hitting a monster double to bring one back home. The Red Sox suddenly took the lead 7-6. They would get another on an indoor single before J.D. Martinez brought another home when he hit a ground player until first base and the Orioles decided to cover zero goals. By the time the dust dissipated, it was 9-6 Red Sox.

Now, it was up to the concealer to finish three more innings to finish this one. Andrew Cashner had the call against his former team in seventh place. He allowed a shot at the base, but faced only three batters thanks to a double play ending in round.

The Red Sox then opened it in an eruption at the bottom of the seventh. Boston added four more goals in this round, an explosion highlighted by a two-point shot by Rafael Devers, his third extra-basic success of the day.

Travis Lakins was in eighth position and started an easy 1-2-3 run. He would come back for one last run in the ninth. He allowed a round in the inning, but that would not matter, because the Red Sox had a lot of room to maneuver and returned home with victory and sweeping.

The Red Sox will have a day off Monday before returning to play Tuesday in Fenway. They will face the Phillies for a short set of two games. They have not announced their starter yet for the first game of the series. Philly will send Aaron Nola to the mound, and the first launch is scheduled for 7:10 pm ET.
