The pre-season minor league contract duo composed of Jose Iglesias and Derek Dietrich has proven to be solid additions to the Reds' in early 2019. There are already some victories that could have been losses. if it was one of these two guys. Tonight it was Dietrich's turn to play again, as he was playing a monster match against the San Francisco Giants tonight. He started things earlier with a 3-point explosion at the bottom of the 1st, then again at the 3rd. In all, he went 3 for 4 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. That gives him 7 dingers on the season, which puts him one behind the team led by Jesse Winker. Take a trophy, Derek. Keep watching these homers.

Honorable mentions should be awarded to: Kyle Farmer, for 2 to 4 with a dinger and 2 RBI; Yasiel Puig, for 2 goals against 4, with 3 scored and a stolen goal; Nick Senzel, for his first major league win, two-time marches, and scoring, is the first of many races in his major league career; and Jesse Winker, to go 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.

Key Games

  • The Reds used an exchange of 2 outings early in the game to take an early lead tonight. Jesse Winker started with a single on the right and came in 2nd place on a single by Yasiel Puig. That led Derek Dietrich, who hit a 3-point dinger right to give the Reds a 3-0 lead.
  • Things stayed that way until the bottom of the 3rd, when the valves were opened. Nick Senzel, who did not get a nickname at all, took a lap at one outing and then moved up to third on Jesse Winker's double, which really got me some sugars. Yasiel Puig was going to hit Brandon Crawford, who was unable to play, and allowed Senzel to score. Derek Dietrich approached and resumed his fucking maneuver, crushing another tank 3 points to the right to allow the Reds to climb 7-0. They were not made there. Jose Iglesias would then double and score later on a single from Kyle Farmer. The Reds led 8-0 after 3.
  • The Giants were able to recover some points at the top of the 4th. Buster Posey led the way with a simple right, then headed to 2nd base on a drive near Brandon Belt. A walk by Evan Longoria would charge the basics. A field trip to Brandon Crawford would allow Posey to score and the riders to climb to reduce the score to 8-1. After the departure of Kevin Pillar, Steven Duggar chose a pilot to center two other pilots. The reds led, 8-3.
  • The Reds had one back. Yasiel Puig got a mistake from Kevin Pillar and managed to move up to 2nd place. He then scored after Derek Dietrich. The reds led, 9-3.

  • Kyle Farmer led 5h with a solo attack on the left to give the Reds a 10-3 lead.

  • Because things can not be easy, the Giants scored 4 at the top of the 6th. Brandon Crawford hit a single 1-out in the middle and then was third on a Kevin Pillar single. This led to Steven Duggar, who flew to the center to bring Crawford. Stephen Vogt doubled the wall to bring in Pillar, who was nearly defeated by Puig in the game. Joe Panik then smoked a ball in the pen to the right, reducing the Reds' lead to 10-7.
  • The Reds added a run down the 7th. Tucker Barnhart walked then passed second on a two-out ride from Senzel. That brought Jesse Winker, who placed a perfectly placed pop-up on the chalk left that bounced off the stands. Tucker Barnhart would score on the game, increasing the Reds' lead to 11-7.
  • The Giants had serious luck BABIP at the head of the 8th. Michael Lorenzen completely saw Steven Duggar and Stephen Vogt, but since they are the 2019 Reds, both players discovered that there was no better player. Amir Garett relieved Lorenzen and immediately eliminated Joe Panik. After a single from Tyler Austin charged the bases, Brandon Belt lined up a 2-point single in the center to score a 2. Raisel Iglesias would relieve Garrett, who would leave a single to Evan Longoria cut to 11-10. Fortunately, Iglesias would eliminate Brandon Crawford to end the round.
  • Goodness. Raisel Iglesias had two easy starts in 9th, then Stephen Vogt completely destroyed a fast first-step ball at about 20 rows of places to the right to tie the game at 11.
  • Evan Longoria sent a field from Jared Hughes to the top of the 11th to give the Giants a 12-11 lead.
