Alexis Tiara Murphy left her Shipman home on August 3, 2013 to visit Lynchburg. Surveillance video showed her at a Lovingston gas station – the last time she was seen alive. Local, state and federal law enforcement conducted extensive searches at the time of her disappearance, the sheriff’s office said.
Family still hope to find missing teenager Alexis Murphy

His remains were found on December 3 on private property in Lovingston and transported to the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for positive identification. The remains were identified as Murphy on Feb.5, 2021, although notification to the community was delayed to allow time for his family to mourn and make necessary arrangements, the statement said.

“As we mourn the loss of Alexis since 2013, we hoped she would be found alive and well. Alexis was our family’s fashionista, athlete and prankster; we have been blessed to love her for 17 years and her memory will live on through all of us, ”her family said in a statement.

Randy Taylor, 48 at the time, also saw Randy Taylor in the surveillance video, according to CNN affiliate WRC.

Taylor was convicted of Murphy’s murder and sentenced to two life sentences. He tried to appeal the conviction, but was refused.

“With the full investigation, the successful prosecutions by the Nelson County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, and Alexis’ recovery, this case is no longer active,” the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said.
