Bianca Andreescu, a 19-year-old Canadian, will play her first Grand Slam final Saturday against Serena Williams. Two days later, Andreescu lost in the second round against Anastasija Sevastova (13th seed), 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. This remains the most recent Grand Slam defeat that Andreescu has suffered.

In the second week of the Australian Open, Andreescu defeated Eugenie Bouchard, 6-2, 6-0, in the quarter-finals of a WTA lower-level event in Newport Beach, California. Bouchard, a Wimbledon finalist in 2014, was Canada's most successful female tennis player of the century. Andreescu then wins the tournament, the biggest title of his career at that time. She improved her record for the year to 16-2.

February 9-10

Andreescu won two Fed Cup games in S-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, to lead Canada to the playoff round.

Andreescu lost to Sofia Kenin, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the semifinals of the Mexican Open at Acapulco. It's the last game ended that she lost.

March 13-17

Andreescu turned heads with two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza 6-0, 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament in Indian Wells, California. Four days later, Andreescu Wins a roller coaster finale to win the biggest title of his career so far, beating the eighth seed, Angelique Kerber, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. She is now 28-3 in 2019.

March 23-25

Andreescu defeated Kerber for the second time in seven days, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, in the third round of the Miami Open. Andreescu was beaten with the right shoulder during the match and asked the coach to visit him. While they meet at the net to shake hands, Kerber calls Andreescu "the greatest queen of the drama of all time".

May 27-29

Andreescu played his first match for more than two months, spread over two days after being suspended due to the darkness. She beats one lucky, Marie Bouzkova, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

The next day, Andreescu retired from the French Open because of his recurrent injuries to the right shoulder. His withdrawal gives Kenin an advantage in the next round, who will then win his next match against Serena Williams. Andreescu scored his first win in more than two months by beating Bouchard, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. It would be his first of four straight wins in three sets at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, his home province of Ontario.

Andreescu wins an abbreviated Rogers Cup final when Serena Williams pulls out 1: 3 in the first set due to spasms on the back. Andreescu was the first Canadian woman to win the tournament, also known as the Canadian Open, in 50 years. Andreescu Williams comforted after giving up the match, claiming that she had seen her become a "beast" throughout her career.

Andreescu left Cincinnati shortly after his victory in Toronto to rest for the American Open.

August 27-Sept. 5

She starts the American Open with a 38-4 record for the season. On August 31, Andreescu won for the first time a match against Arthur Ashe Stadium in the third round of the US Open, defeating Caroline Wozniacki, 19th seed, 6-4, 6-4. It was Andreescu's first participation in the third Grand Slam round. Many other firsts await us.

Andreescu returns 2-5 in the second set and beat Thursday the 13th seed, Belinda Bencic, 7-6 (3), 7-5, to reach her first Grand Slam final where she will face Serena Williams.

If she loses the final she will be ranked # 9; she will be No. 5 if she wins.
