The royal family made a “huge mistake” after a “strange” response to the miscarriage of Meghan Markle | Royal | News

The royal family has botched an attempt to mend their relationship with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, according to Russell Myers, the royal editor of the Daily Mirror. Mr Myers called Buckingham Palace’s “cold” response a “huge mistake” and a “missed opportunity”. He suggested that not standing by Meghan’s side and praising her for the editorial suggests “the extent of these cracks in the relationship.”

It comes after Meghan Markle revealed she had a miscarriage in July, writing in an article about feeling “almost unbearable grief”.

Buckingham Palace’s only comment on the sad news was a brief statement saying it was “a deeply personal matter on which we would not comment.”

This drew criticism that the response “lacked empathy” and showed a “cold” side to the royal family.

TalkRADIO host Kevin O’Sullivan called the response “sulky” and “strange.”

He said: ‘When the palace released its statement, they neglected to note that Meghan had decided not to make it a deeply personal matter.

“She decided to share it with the world. They were wrong about that.”

Mr Myers told talkRADIO this morning that “this is a huge and huge missed opportunity for the royal family” before accusing them of “abandoning” Meghan.

He explained, “They should have supported her until the end. They should have made public statements about it saying it’s a really brave and honest thing to do.

He added: “Harry and Meghan – the general view that they are strangers is only entrenched when they are not supported like that, unfortunately.

“In some areas of the palace there are people who disagree with Harry and Meghan’s approach by saying they wanted privacy and then they do an editorial in The New York Times.

“But I think it was a bit of a sad and missed opportunity and they didn’t shower themselves with glory.

“They should have said they stand side by side with her, and she is very brave.

“You have to wonder how important these cracks are in the relationship where they can’t even do that.”
