Sheryl Powell, 60, of Huntington Beach, Calif., Was reported missing by her husband Friday afternoon at Grandview Campground near Bishop, California, according to the Inyo County Sheriff's Office. Joe, Powell's husband, said that his wife and their dog had disappeared while moving their car and had called the police over satellite phone after searching for an hour.

The police began their search, assisted by aerial assistance and thermal imagery. Over the weekend, searches have developed with the help of multiple police departments.

The authorities said the case was both an active search and rescue operation and an active investigation, as they examined how Powell had disappeared.

"At the present time, we have no suspected suspects or evidence to directly conclude criminal activity, but we are considering all possibilities," Sgt said. Nathaniel Derr, Search and Rescue Coordinator at the Inyo County Sheriff's Office.

Joe Powell said that he had not gone more than seven minutes to move his car when his wife was gone.

"I came back here and she was gone," he said on Sunday. "The only plausible explanation in my opinion is that it has been removed."

Joe Powell said he and his wife were experienced hikers and both walkers traveled more than 24 miles a week.

Greg Powell, the couple's son, said his parents had been married for 42 years. "I think the last time they had a fight, I was between 9 and 10 years old," he said.

"My mother is the strongest and most incredible woman I know," the couple's daughter, Farrah, wrote on Facebook.
