Tuesday marked the first week of semifinals on AGT, featuring favorite fan shows like Kodi Lee, Tyler Butler-Figueroa and Benicio Bryant. The competition is gaining momentum as only five of tonight's numbers will qualify for the final.
Tonight's episode also featured the first ever guest judge in the semifinals – Will & Grace star Sean Hayes. Check out all the night's performances below, and vote for your favorites on the AGT website or by downloading the AGT app.
Ndlovu Youth Choir
This uplifting South African choir was saved from elimination in the quarterfinals. They returned to AGT scene to perform Steve Winwood's "Higher Love". During the performance, judges Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union began to dance. Gabrielle called them "the pride and joy of the world". Simon said that it was "in a superior league" to their previous performances.
Ansley Burns
This young country singer had several second chances to come back after having been whitened and got the Dunkin 'Save. She chose to sing "Cry Pretty" by Carrie Underwood. Julianne called it "sun ray", but she said the song "had her mastered". Gabrielle called her "the oppressed of America". However, Howie Mandel said the song did not do him justice.
Messoudi Brothers
These acrobatic brothers returned from an injury during the rehearsal and managed to qualify for the quarterfinals. Tonight, they included Julianne in their balancing act before repeating the shot that had caused their injury. Simon Cowell said it was an improvement over their previous performance.
Tyler Butler-Figueroa
Tonight, this young violinist played with other cancer survivors and children he inspired. He chose to play "Break Free" by Ariana Grande, accompanied by impressive dance moves. Simon called him "brilliant musician" and "great showman". Gabrielle described her performance as "truly magical".
Greg Morton
This funny impressionist said he was preparing for AGT since he was a child. Tonight, he has imitated cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo, Homer Simpson and SpongeBob SquarePants. Simon called it "a mess", but Julianne accused him of not knowing the voices Greg was doing. Sean called it "amazing".
Kodi Lee
This beloved recipient of Golden Buzzer has returned to AGT scene to interpret "You Are the Reason" by Calum Scott. Simon congratulated him for putting his own twist on every song he covered, adding that it had taken his breath away. Sean said his tears trickled in his eyes, and Howie called him "magical".
Jackie Fabulous
This comic won the Dunkin 'Save Award last week. Tonight she talked about her experiences as an actress, her attempts to lose weight and her awkward conversations. Howie called it "authentic" and Sean called it "sympathetic". However, Simon asked if she brought enough "energy" and "confidence".
Robert Finley
This singer-songwriter has regained his soulful voice and inspiring attitude to the semi-finals. Tonight he performed an original song called "Age does not mean a thing". Sean said that he stood out from the rest of the competition. Simon called him "so cool, so smart," but said he did not want the band on stage for the performance.
Eric Chien
Eric said that he was thinking of going home last week after a negative review of Simon. He came back with an act that gave life to a map of the world. Julianne said that she was "baffled" by the performance and Simon said that he had no bloody clue about what was going on. Meanwhile, Gabrielle praised what they have "never seen before".
Children's Light Balance
This group of young Ukrainian dancers returned to the stage with an epic and enlightened dance routine. Simon has changed his tone since last week, calling himself "silly" to criticize them and predict that they will go to the finals. Howie said that he could imagine that it was an act of Vegas. Julianne, however, said she preferred their previous routines.
Benicio Bryant
This 14-year-old singer came back with another original song this week. Simon called him "very remarkable" and predicted he would qualify for the final. Julianne said that he had "created a whole world" with his performance. Sean said he was "obsessed" with him and Howie had predicted he would be a star.
