A major video game franchise has adopted a retro version for its next high-profile version, continuing the trend seen in the gaming world: developers are increasingly targeting older players who want to recreate games they grew up. This time, it's the legendary "ToeJam & Earl" franchise, with Funko-Tron's extraterrestrials returning to Earth to find Santa … or possibly run away from Boogey Man.
The creators of "ToeJam & Earl" are expected to release a sequel of the game in March, which is already generating a huge craze in the world of video games. Producer Matt Conn tells us that the game is the result of a campaign launched by Kickstarter in 2015. He describes it as a smooth restart – but also a direct continuation – of the original game 1991, which was a must for young players who owned a Sega Genesis in the 90s.

The original game followed two extraterrestrial rappers who crashed on Earth. It's up to the user to help them collect pieces of their destroyed spaceship so they can return to their home planet, Funkotron. "ToeJam & Earl" has seen other sequels since the game's release, but the game was very different. This new version brings the game back to its original style, bringing back a nostalgic aesthetic to older players and proving once again that everything old is new again.
And to maximize the theme of the '90s, another blast from the past will be involved in this version of the game: Home Alone star, Macaulay Culkin, who joined the group as executive producer. Conn says that with the help of Culkin, downloadable content could possibly be on the horizon, including a character model in the Culkin game itself.

We still do not know if this new version of the game will spawn a new franchise empire "ToeJam & Earl", but one thing is certain: the retro trend of game development is going nowhere.
