OAKLAND, Calif. – Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Matt Shoemaker has a torn left ACL, interrupting a promising new season for the often injured right-winger.
Shoemaker was injured at the end of a countdown on Saturday and Toronto announced the diagnosis and placed it on the 10-day injury list Sunday.
"I know that I seem quite upset right now, what I am, but I've already had difficulties on the road and I'm going to fight," he told the press after learning the diagnostic. "It's just who I am – it's really upsetting right now."
The 32-year-old is 3-0 with a silver medal of 1.57 in five starts in his first season in Toronto. He was limited to seven starts last year with the Angels because of the tension in his forearm. In 2016, he had a broken skull when he was hit in the head by a line and he had persistent problems in his forearm for a while.
This injury occurred while he was suing Matt Chapman of Oakland in the third inning. The shoemaker applied the label and returned to avoid contact.
Shoemaker walked slowly into the club with one crutch after an MRI Sunday.
Field player Richard Urena has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.
