Chaos erupted during Saturday night’s baseball game at Nationals Park after gunshots were heard outside the stadium in Washington, DC.
DC Police Department said on twitter that two people were shot dead outside the stadium, adding that there was “no continuing threat”.
“As a result of the shooting tonight’s @Nationals game has been suspended,” the cops wrote.
Several loud pops were heard from the far left as the San Diego Padres took the field for the bottom of the sixth inning.
Fans could be seen taking cover under their seats as helicopters circled the stadium, footage tweeted by WBRZ-TV reporter Dana DiPiazza showed.
Police sirens sounded as several people in the crowd began to exit the stadium.
Yardage taken from a neighboring roof showed a frenzied mass evacuation of the stadium, which is in the city’s Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.
The home team confirmed reports of a shootout outside the gate to third base.
“Fans are encouraged to leave the stadium through the CF and RF gates at this time,” the team said. tweeted at 9:47 p.m.
“We are working with law enforcement to provide more information as it becomes available.”
The game was interrupted in the sixth inning with San Diego leading the Nats 8-4.
