Country music singer Granger Smith announced that his youngest son, River, aged 3, had died as a result of a "tragic accident".

In his Instagram post, Smith said that "despite all the doctor's efforts, he could not be revived."

Smith explained that he and his wife made the decision to donate his organs so that "the other children have a second chance to live".

Smith told how special his son was and how devastated and torn he and his wife were.

"The joy he brought to our lives can not be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts," Smith wrote.

The message ends with Smith asking for donations to go to the Dell Children's Medical Center on behalf of River, instead of flowers or gifts.
