(CNN) – In an excerpt from his reality show "Real Money", Eddie Money announced Saturday that he was suffering from esophageal cancer at stage 4.

"I thought I was going to have a medical exam and he told me that I had cancer," said Money, 70 years old. He was diagnosed last fall while recording the second season of his show, according to AXS TV.

The diagnosis hit him hard, but he did not want to hide it, said Money.

"This is not honest, I want to be honest with everyone.I want people to know that cancer has come a long way and that not everyone dies of cancer as they have done in the 50s and 60s, "he said.

"Will I live long? Who knows, it's in the hands of God," Money said. "But you know what, I'll take every day I can have, every day above the ground is a good day."

The money is best known for the "Two Tickets to Paradise", "Take Me Home Tonight" and "Baby Hold On" hits. His rock career has been going on for 40 years.
