We're just hours from the launch of the latest Fortnite crossover, as these things never end. This time, no film, show or sports league is promoted, but today marks the 80th anniversary of Batman's debut in the world of comics. DC has forged a partnership with Fortnite in order to avoid Marvel from having all the pleasure after two events up to now.

Today's event is accompanied by a new map of Gotham replacing Tilted Down, new gadgets for bats like the grappling hook and the explosive batarang, but also new Batman cosmetics, which apparently have all already fled online thanks to datamers like Lucas7Yoshi and Hypex, although it seems that these appearances come from promotional videos put online too early, no content buried in the code.

We are getting not one but two skins for the Batman event. There is a Catwoman the skin, seen from above and from below, with blind paws on the back of a cat and double grabs. It looks a bit like a zipped version of the Arkwoman Catwoman series that rocked the goggles.

And of course, next to her, we have Batman himself. He has a Batplane glider (which is great) and he has two different styles for him, one of which, I suppose, can be unlocked by challenges. There is still a sleek version that seems closer to the comic or animated series, and another that resembles the Batman armored "movie" of the Dark Knight era.

Given Batman's detachment of firearms, some people wondered if we were going to have a Batman skin, because it would be a bit odd to see him running with assault rifles and miniguns and what would not not in the game, but I guess DC wanted to place Fortnite more than they wanted Batman to touch no weapon, so we're there.

These two skins add to Fortnite's growing list of licensed characters and actually create a bit of a Marvel vs. Vs. situation. DC because it's a game that also has Black Widow and Star Lord skins that you can also use in combat. Here is the complete list, with these new additions. Super Smash Bros. vibrate here:

  • Black Widow
  • Star Lord
  • John Wick
  • A Demigorgon from Stranger Things
  • Stranger Things Hopper
  • A Borderlands psychopath
  • An assortment of NFL players
  • Batman
  • Catwoman

When we heard about the Batman event for the first time, I wondered if we could instead get a Joker skin. But I will also take Catwoman and damn it, I will probably buy both because of course I am. See you in Gotham in a few hours.
