The episode of Tuesday's podcast entitled "Dr. Phil in the Blanks, "Sophie Turner, star of" Game of Thrones "(GOT) explained to Phil McGraw that she was depressed and that she had had suicidal thoughts.
"I often thought about suicide when I was younger," she said. "I do not know why, though. … I do not think I would have ever lived. "
Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on GOT, said she was struggling with depression and her body image facing online critics about her performances and her appearance in the hit series.
"I had no motivation to do anything or go out," she said. "I cried and cried and cried. Just to change me and put on some clothes, I said, "I can not do that."
In response to listening to her experiences with depression, McGraw asked: "And it never occurred to you that 99.99999% of the girls in the world would like to be you?"
Although he holds a doctorate in psychology and a doctorate in psychology, McGraw is not a licensed psychologist and can not legally practice as a psychologist because he no longer has a license.
This is not the first time a celebrity has spoken to McGraw about the expression of suicidal thoughts as a child. Last year, singer Demi Lovato had granted an interview to the television personality and revealed that she had planned to commit suicide at the age of 7.
"The very first time I was suicidal, it was at the age of 7," Lovato said. "I had this fascination for death. … AAt 7, I knew that if I killed myself, the pain would end.
Turner said she felt better about mental health these days. She credits her relationship with Jonas Brothers singer, Joe Jonas, to helping her to love herself. She says:
I love myself now or more than before. … I am now with someone who makes me realize, you know, that I have some redeeming qualities, I suppose, and when someone tells you that he loves you every day you realize why, and I think it makes you love you a little bit more.
