LOS ANGELES – Roope Hintz scored 3:19 in overtime, and the Dallas Stars regained their playoff spot and extended the Los Angeles Kings defeat series to 10 with a 4-3 win at Staples Center on Thursday.
Hintz scored with a high backhand after the keeper Jonathan Quick could not cover the rebound of a shot by Alexander Radulov.
Tyler Seguin, Mattias Janmark and Radek Faksa scored for the Stars (32-27-5), who lead the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche with a point for the first blank card in the Western Conference playoffs. Anton Khudobin made 27 saves for his third consecutive victory.

"Everyone in this locker room knows where we are in the standings," said the Stars striker. Blake Comeauwho had two passes. "I do not want to take anything away from L.A., but they're not fighting for a playoff spot … it's really a game we had to win."
Anze Kopitar scored two goals and help for the Kings (23-33-8), who are 0-6-4 in the last 10 games, the second-longest losing streak in their history (0-10 -0 of 22 February) -9 March 1984). Brendan Leipsic scored a power play goal and Quick made 29 saves.
It was the Stars' third win after being coached in the third period this season (3-17-1).

Faksa created the 3-3 tie at 9:53 of the third period. Quick saved Comeau's shot from the top of the face-off circle, and the puck went straight to Faksa in the slot for a shot in the open goal.
"To say that I had planned it perfectly was probably inaccurate, but I was trying to shoot away and the guys (Faksa and Janmark) did a great job by going to the net," said Comeau.
Jason Dickinson was fortunate to win for Dallas at 15:19 of the third period, but Quick managed to beat the stick to make a stopping of the bat on a shot directed towards the open goal.
"We thought it was on the bench," said Stars coach Jim Montgomery. "What a miraculous safeguard and, again, (one of those) things you have to overcome – fast, not the first time that he's made a miraculous backup like that."
Kopitar gave the Kings 3-2 the lead at 11:46 of the second period when Hintz countered the rebound of Tyler ToffoliThe captain of Kings pulls in the nets. It was the second two-goal game of the season for Kopitar and his third match with three points.
Janmark created the 2-2 tie at 6:14 of the second. He's positioned behind the defender Derek Forbort on the left edge of the fold to receive a shot deflected by Comeau and score on his backhand.
Leipsic gave the advantage to Los Angeles 2-0 at 13:28 of the first period when Drew DoughtyThe kick passes in front of him, but Seguin scored his 27th goal in Dallas in 14:48 to reduce it to 2-1.
Kopitar gave the Kings a 1-0 lead at 7:57.
"We have been embarrassed several times during the last road trip, and we have certainly solved this problem," said Kopitar. "I thought the effort was there tonight, but we can not be satisfied with that, not just the effort, we have to start winning games."
