COLUMBUS – While Ohio State fans were waiting to see who would be the starting quarterback, the Buckeyes found out where the media had projected them for the season.

The state of Ohio will begin the season 5 in the country, according to the voters of AP Poll, since the preparatory version was published Monday.

The Buckeyes were again screened as the best conference team after the back-to-back conference championships. State rival Ohio, Michigan, ranks seventh after generating some popularity during the off-season as a challenger for first place in the championship. There are seven Big Ten teams ranked by the media to start the season.

Clemson took first place, followed by Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma. The state of Ohio is projected outside the college football game early in the season, according to media outlets who voted.

At the time of the ballot, Ohio State will face five ranked opponents. The first of these will come against Nebraska. The Buckeyes will face the Cornhuskers on September 28th.

The Buckeyes, who finished third in the last coaching poll last season, were ranked fifth in the AmWay Coaches poll, released Aug. 1. Ohio State was the top ranked team of the Big Ten in this poll. Seven Big Ten teams were ranked in the coaching survey.
