“The Talk” named two new co-hosts on Tuesday, after Page Six exclusively revealed that producers and network executives “panicked” about the ratings.
Celebrity coach Amanda Kloots – who lost her husband, Broadway star Nick Cordero, to COVID-19 earlier this year – and journalist Elaine Welteroth join the upcoming 11th season when it premieres on January 4, 2021, the show announced.
They will join returning hosts Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Carrie Ann Inaba, and replace Marie Osmond, who left after just one season, and Eve, whose three-season run ends in December.
Sources recently told Page Six that the show’s bigwigs were “panicking” after the ratings for “The Talk” dropped to 1.5 million, half of the audience for “The View”. 3 million.
A CBS insider added that the show’s recent roster of rotating hosts, which included both Kloots and Welteroth, was not helping to provide ratings.
“Nothing is working,” the insider said. “We are now the lowest rated network program and we can’t get any traction. Losing over half a million viewers in a year is catastrophic for a daytime show. Unless we can hire Gayle King or Oprah or Meghan Markle, the writing is on the wall.
That said, another insider insisted at the time, “The producers and executives of the show are not in a panic and the show is not in danger of being canceled.”
As Page Six previously reported, Osmond was kicked out of her gig after just one season when longtime co-hosts Osbourne and Underwood threatened to step down if she didn’t leave.
