Target registries appear to be down at the national level.

Customers post their long waits at the checkout desk on social media and then leave the stores empty-handed on Saturday afternoons.

"We are aware of a system problem in the store and are working as quickly as possible to solve this problem," Target said on Twitter. @AskTarget account in response to buyers' tweets. "Thank you for your patience!"

According to a shopper in Columbia, Maryland, employees warned buyers of the blackout when they entered the store.

Downdetector.com has published many articles on problematic stores.

"Massive failure at @Target.All cash systems are out of order in several stores in our immediate area.I wonder how widespread this is. #SaturdayMorning," @TheQuietJorge tweeted.
