Get ready to bid farewell to the Toyota Prius C as the hybrid hatchback is about to retire. If buyers want an electrified daily driver, the Corolla Hybrid 2020 (gallery below), larger and more fuel efficient, arrives to assume this role in the Toyota lineup.

Introduced in the United States for the 2012 model year, the Prius C has expanded the Toyota lineup by offering buyers a smaller hybrid model and cheaper than the larger Prius. The power came from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder running on the Atkinson cycle and an electric motor producing a combined total power of 99 horsepower (74 kilowatts). A minor update of the 2015 model has modified the front section and added LED high beams. Another slight update for 2017 has reshaped the vehicle's face and made the standard Safety Sense-C safety suite.
The new Corolla Hybrid will go on sale in spring 2019 and share a powertrain with the current Prius. A 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and two engine-generators have a total output of 121 hp (90 kW). A nickel-metal hydride battery is located under the rear seat and does not affect the cabin or luggage compartment. An intelligent differential routes forces to the left and right wheels when the driving load is low, but acts as an open differential when the load is high.
The fuel economy of the Corolla Hybrid 2020 is already available from the EPA. He gets 53 miles per gallon city and 52 mpg highway for a combined rating of 52 mpg. In comparison, the Prius C 2019 is equipped with 48 mpg in the city, 43 mpg highway and 46 mpg in all.
The details on the price of the Corolla Hybrid 2020 are not yet available, but expect that the info arrives closer to its launch.
