Traeger Pellet grills and smokers are the centerpieces of many suburban barbecues, and those lucky enough to be able to maintain these machines are considered gods among the chest. Now, after years of only being able to check and modify your grill through your phone, Traeger is now offer an Apple Watch application for grills on the go.
Traeger grills are Wi-Fi enabled, which means you can connect to them remotely. The phone app currently has recipes and notifications that let you know when the meat reaches a certain temperature. You can also change the heat and even activate the smoker remotely.
The Apple Watch app is similar but simpler. The app allows you to change the temperature, check the probe temperature and activate the reheat mode after your meal is finished. The video below shows an idyllic example in which the grill dips beef on the grill, then racquets, checking the grill from the comfort of his wrist.
Apple Watch apps aren’t new, but this one is particularly spicy in that while it isn’t technologically impressive, it puts control of your smoked pork shoulder right on your wrist. If it’s not the future, I don’t know what it is.
