Harry Potter: 15 Magical Facts About JK Rowling's Beloved Boy Wizard franchise (Photos)
J.K. Rowling launched Pottermania on June 26, 1997 with the publication of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (renamed "Sorcerer & # 39; s Stone" in the US). Four years later, a film version launched a franchise that has had the same success. TheWrap is associated with IMDb to give you these 15 facts that you may not know about the movie series.

The roots of Potter's films begin in 1997 with David Heyman, the man who produced all the episodes of the series, including "Fantastic Beasts". Heyman was looking for a series of books for young adults to present to major studios and received a copy of "Sorcerer's Stone" from his assistant. Two years later, Rowling sold the rights to his books to Warner Bros. for $ 2 million, provided that only British actors are chosen.

Dumbledore's main actor, Richard Harris, was born in Ireland. He repeatedly declined the role because he did not want to engage in filming several sequels, but he eventually gave in to his loving granddaughter Potter. Unfortunately, Harris died in 2002 after shooting "Chamber of Secrets" and was replaced by Michael Gambon.
WB
Part of the attraction of Potter's films was to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up with their characters, but that hardly happened. In looking for a director, WB envisioned Steven Spielberg, who wanted to make the movies as an animated series combining books. WB President Alan Horn vetoed the idea by insisting that the films be live.

Having only written four books at the time the filming started, Rowling was chosen as a creative consultant to ensure that the film does not contradict her plans for the rest of the series. To this end, she revealed elements of the plot that she had not yet written to Alan Rickman, whom Rowling had chosen to play in Snape's place. This included the revelation of Snape's love for Lily Evans since the heyday of "Deathly Hallows."

Fans may remember protests against Pottermania from conservative Christian groups claiming that frankness promotes pagan witchcraft. These had an impact on the filming of "Sorcerer's Stone" because filming requests in Canterbury Cathedral were blocked. Instead, the Dean of Gloucester invited the team to turn in his cathedral, claiming that he was a big fan of the series.

Director Chris Columbus wanted to film as many "Sorcerer's Stone" as possible. Although subsequent films make more use of studio shooting, it was shot in major venues in England, including King's Cross, Durham Cathedral, and Alnwick Castle. The main exceptions are the Gryffindor common room and the Great Hall, which were shot in the studio.

In the books and in the movie, Platform 9 3/4 is not really between platforms 9 and 10 at King's Cross. The platforms 9 and 10 are suburban platforms located in a rather banal part of the station, while the largest area seen in the film and represented in the books is the interurban area located on the platforms 4 and 5. Nevertheless, if you are going to go to King's Cross and find the actual Pier 10, you will find nearby a sign indicating Pier 9 3/4, with a luggage cart that disappears into the wall.

When casting The Boy Who Lived, Columbus was determined to get Daniel Radcliffe for the role after seeing in the 1999 BBC adaptation of "David Copperfield". This hardly happened, however, because Radcliffe's parents were afraid to be overwhelmed by the media attention. After a long talk with Columbus and Heyman, they finally agreed.
WB
The hearing of Rupert Grint was completely different. To get the role of Ron Weasley, he sent a video of his rapper explaining why he should be in the movie. In 2011, during the "Deathly Hallows" panel, he played part of his rap for a crowd of Potter fans.
WB
Even today, the differences between Radcliffe and Grint are striking. While he was playing more than $ 95 million since he was playing with Harry, Radcliffe admitted in an interview with The Telegraph in 2016 that he had barely spent it. Meanwhile, Grint spent his money to fulfill his childhood dream of owning a truckload of ice cream.

As for Emma Watson, she initially hesitated to audition for Hermione, but she was convinced by her theater teacher in Oxford. She had the role after Heyman and Rowling were impressed by her confidence in screen tests.
WB
In an effort to stay as faithful as possible to the books, Watson had initially received false teeth that matched Hermione's saw-tooth smile from Rowling's descriptions. They were scrapped after Watson had trouble talking to them.
CBS
J.K. Rowling herself has been seen appearing in the film as Harry's mother, Lily, who appears in the Mirror of Erised. Rowling refused, and the role was given to Geraldine Somerville.
WB
The floating candles in the Great Hall were created with a special effects installation that moved the candles up and down in special brackets creating the illusion that they were floating. This platform was discarded in the suites after one of the wires broke and dropped a candle. Nobody was hurt, but it was decided that the candles would be fully computer generated in subsequent movies.
WB
Although most of the films are not shot in chronological order, Columbus decided to film most of "Sorcerer's Stone" early on to help Radcliffe, Watson and Grint to meet in as a group. One of the rare exceptions to this rule is the Quidditch match, filmed for the last time due to the large amount of visual and special effects. Go to IMDb for more trivia, goofs and quotes.
