Out of nowhere, Triple H announced that NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa, North American champion Johnny Gargano, Ricochet and Aleister Black would make their debut in Monday Night Raw during this week's episode. Each of them was presented with a video package and a remarkable background of Michael Cole. It was very sporty, like a scouting report, to inform the most casual fans of these guys' personality and why they are worth listening to. They all went out and won the night beating established players up and down the map.
Questions immediately arose as to whether or not this was a call to the main list and it would appear that they would remain to a certain extent on Raw. But since two of them are still NXT champions, they will work clearly for the yellow mark.
In the same show, it was announced that Bayley & Sasha Banks, the new women's team champion, would defend these titles not only on Raw and SmackDown, but also on NXT. This, of course, does not indicate anymore that they are demoted in NXT that, for example, if Ciampa appearing on Raw means that he is promoted to that post. In fact, this seems to indicate that the territorial system that Triple H has been defending for a long time is finally here.
So it makes sense that WWE, with its many talents and lack of space for all, would send stars to other brands to refresh things from time to time. Really, it does not happen often enough. Of course, they do the Superstar Shakeup once a year, but the appearances of different stars of different brands should not be the exception, but the norm.
Of course, it is quite possible that Vince McMahon is changing his mind and not interested in this idea, but they have already done enough to show that it is viable.
(Although the crowd in Louisiana this week never seemed to understand everything the WWE had to offer.)
For my part, I can not wait to see where they are going with this and excited for the possibilities.
