The smart lighting market is barely stagnating, but there are key players whose products dominate their niche. If you’re looking for smart light strips, you’re probably going to end up with a Philips Hue product, and people hoping for decorative wall pieces tend to the Nanoleaf lights popularized by Twitch and YouTube. But Twinkly (of smart Christmas light fame) just released their own spatially mappable versions of the two.
In case you are unfamiliar, Twinkly is known (among others) for its fairy lights. The company has a unique twist on this formula, as its lights can be mapped by an app, allowing you to apply models after the fact without worrying about how you set them up or put them on. It’s really cool:
These Christmas lights from Twinkly are mind blowing. You place them on your tree and then on their app which takes video from your phone and locates each light, so it can send out intricate patterns. Here is a candy cane https://t.co/cRITLC9Rkz pic.twitter.com/wPSbdKpMVx

Today, Twinkly is announcing three new products: Twinkly Line Smart LED Strips, Twinkly Flex LED Tube and Twinkly Squares Smart LED Panels, and all of them benefit from this technology as well.
Twinkly line
Twinkly Line is a set of smart LED light strips available in two options: a strip of 100 RGB LEDs and an extension strip available in similar increments of 100 LEDs, all individually addressable for animations and effects via the Twinkly app .
Availability of the Twinkly line is set for Q2 2021, but pricing has not been revealed.
Twinkly Flex
Twinkly Flex is a “tube” light that can be flexed and twisted to fit where you need it – or left out as a standout accent. Each tube comes with 200 RGB LEDs which can be mapped to real world spaces via the Twinkly app.
The Twinkly Flex will be available in the second quarter of 2021, price to be determined.
Glittering squares
The new Twinkly Squares have sights aimed squarely (ha) at Nanoleaf. These are not fancy geometric shapes per se, but simply large square panels offering 64 RGB pixels in an 8×8 configuration, sold in sets of 9 or 16 panels. That’s a lot more potential than just one color per panel.
As with other Twinkly products, each of these pixels is individually mappable, so you can display intricate and changing patterns through the Twinkly app – one step closer to my dream of an entire wall covered in Conway’s Game of Life .
Unlike the other two products in the current lineup, Twinkly Squares won’t be available until Q4 2021, so you have an expectation ahead of you. In case you haven’t noticed the model yet, Twinkly hasn’t revealed the price of it either.
All Twinkly products support Razer Chroma with Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa integration, and (as stated several times above) they all work with the Twinkly app, which allows you to map the location of each LED and apply fun effects, giving them a leg up on the competition. – although you cannot buy these new lights yet.
