The ultimate director of Smash Bros. teases the “celebration of the game” in the final reveal

On Tuesday, October 5, Nintendo will unveil the final fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch. The company is understandably silent on who will end the game’s roster, but director Masahiro Sakurai left an interesting clue in a new Tweet today. The director again provided details on the video’s release date, while calling it “the game’s last celebration.” Sakurai has often watched Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as his way of celebrating video games in general, as his roster reflects some of the biggest people in the business.

“The Last Fighter DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be announced on October 5 ET / PT / CEST. Hope you all join me live for one last celebration of the game. Be sure to mark the date in your calendars, ” Sakurai wrote on Twitter.

Sakurai isn’t personally responsible for every decision regarding the game’s roster (Nintendo dictates quite a bit), but he has one of the most important voices when it comes to those decisions. His word choice in the Tweet above makes it seem like he’s going to be someone tall, and a major way to close this chapter in the Super Smash Bros. series. It’s impossible to say for sure, but this wording likely refers to a third-party character, as opposed to a Nintendo-owned fighter like Waluigi.

Within days of the big reveal, speculation could be higher than ever. Master Chief, Sora, and Crash Bandicoot are by far the most requested, and any of these faces would fit the “one last celebration of the game” theme. All three characters are industry icons, but there are many other major faces that haven’t made it into the game. Nintendo listens carefully to fans when it comes to Smash and has made every effort to include these characters in the game. whenever possible. Whichever fighter is selected, I hope it’s a choice that matches the rest of the roster well and satisfies as many fans as possible. Fortunately, we don’t have much to wait to find out!
